An indispensable guide and hands-on resource for families that want to joyfully build or deepen their connection with nature through an extensive range of over 100 recipes for cooking, wellness, personal care, and crafts all year long. Seasonal Family Almanac gives families the tools to rediscover the soul-stirring magic that comes from living in tune with the seasons.
“TODAY, WHEN WE EMBRACE THE WORLD OUTSIDE OUR DOOR, WE KINDLE OUR ANCESTRAL FLAME AND PLANT THE SEEDS OF OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURE. WE HELP THEM SEE BEYOND THE DIGITAL WORLD AND CONNECT WITH OUR EXTRAORDINARY PLANET, LEARNING TO LOVE AND PROTECT THE EARTH THAT SUSTAINS THEM.” — JANA BLANKENSHIP & EMMA FRISCH
Seasonal Family Almanac blossomed out of our friendship, shared philosophies, and desire to create a book that would combine our knowledge and practices (as well as those of our community) for using seasonal ingredients for cooking, care, and crafts and welcoming in the gifts of each microseason. As mothers with young children, we discovered that taking cues from the Earth’s rhythms brought ease to our family life, and we wanted to share the rituals and traditions we’d learned from our own families and community members.
With over 100 lush color photographs by Allison Usavage as well as drawings by the authors, this book shares 40 delicious food and beverage recipes from around the world, over 30 personal care and wellness recipes, 25 crafts and activities and 18 essays from contributors.
